Day 3: Sorting things out before the end of the world
Who: Bobby & Julietta
When: about 8:00-10:00
Where: Le Meridien
Julietta awoke a little after eight in the morning. She didn't know how long she had slept or what the time was, only that her head hurt a little and
she needed to go to the bathroom. With a little difficulty she pushed herself off the luxurious bed and wobbled into the bathroom.
When she managed to wake up little better she remembered the fight she had had with Bobby the previous evening. Apparently Bobby had misunderstood her
but she didn't really blame him. He was still so young and she should have known better. The only thing was that now their relationship seemed a bit
strained and she hated that. They had gotten along so nicely earlier. But she intended to do something about that today.
She dressed and put on some makeup before opening the door to the hallway. She almost tripped over the neatly folded night gowns set before her door.
She picked them up and couldn't help but smile. She set them on top of the bag she used for her stuff. Stepping into the hallway she wondered if she
should search for Bobby or go make breakfast. She decided that it would be wiser to find Bobby now without breakfast growing cold while she was
looking for her lost companion.
But she didn't have any idea where he could be. He had said that he'd settle into a room close to hers, but that didn't say very much. So she started
opening the doors to the rooms one by one. She found room after room empty, neatly put together and waiting for the next visitor to settle inside.
After a while she hit the right door and found Bobby curled up in an armchair with a blanket pulled around himself. Julietta couldn't help smiling a
little seeing him there. He looked like a child she wanted to protect and care for. She walked over and softly shook his shoulder, calling his name.
That usually did it for Niels, but she wasn't sure how sound sleeper Bobby was.

Bobby was warm, warm and comfortable, curled in the embrace of the chair and sleeping off the previous days excesses. The gentle rocking on his
shoulder and calling of his name slowly worked its way through the fog of sleep and he opened his eyes, blinking the sleep away as he saw Etta's face
close to his.
It took him a few seconds to process what was happening, where he was, that maybe he'd never wake up in his own bed again but all of that disappeared
rapidly when he realised that he was laying naked beneath a blanket and the woman that he'd insulted the day before was stood over him, dressed for
the day.
The colour rose bright red in his cheeks as he brought his right hand up from beneath the covers to wipe the sleep from his eyes and confirm he was
awake,
"Etta, what time is it? Are you OK?" was all he could think to say.

Julietta smiled when Bobby woke up. She waited while he tried to get some of the sleep off of himself. When he blushed Julietta looked surprised for a
moment, but when she remembered the clothes all around the room she just smiled.
"It's time for breakfast and I'm alright," Julietta replied in a light tone smiling. She straightened up and looked at Bobby.
"I guess you want to freshen up before coming to eat. I'll head over to the kitchen and you can come down when you're ready. I'll make you something
nice to eat," she said and looked at Bobby for a moment before turning around and heading for the door.

"Right," Bobby was still a bit flakey from just having woken up. As Julietta left the room he called after her, "kitchen is just down the stairs,
beyond reception, there's a door to it in the dining room."
Once she had left, he waited a moment until he was sure the door was closed, then mentally rebuked himself for thinking that she might just pretend to
leave and walk back in while he was standing naked because it just wasn't going to happen, before getting up out of the chair and collecting up his
things. He pulled a clean pair of underpants out of his bag, leaving the previous days discarded on the floor, and gave his socks a sniff. They seemed
fine so he put them on along with most of yesterdays clothes.
The bandage he'd wrapped round his left arm the previous night had done its job and he peeled it off, making sure it was fully rolled up so the reddy
brown stain didn't show and dropping it in the bin. He pulled out a long sleeved T-shirt from his bag so his arms would stay covered. Finally he
grabbed the solar lanterns, they'd need to be taken out in to the road to charge up again.
Ready for the day, he headed out of the door.

Julietta found the kitchen without much difficulties. There were signs of Bobby cooking the previous night and as he had said the place was filled
with fresh food stacked on the shelves and freezers that were pretty much warmed up already without the power on.
Julietta took some time to check the ingredients, but after noticing that it was most likely fresh and good to eat she started preparing breakfast.
She sliced up some bread and found butter and marmalade for it. She washed, peeled and prepared some fruits and vegetables. Then she pondered a moment
about eggs, but decided that it was safer to leave them alone, since you never knew if they were fresh or not.
Instead she managed to boil some water and make coffee. She also found some tea so she saved some of the water for that. She picked up sugar and milk
and carried all of the food to the dining room and set it up there.
Just when she was setting the coffee down Bobby walked in.
"Hi. Breakfast is ready and served. Do you want coffee or tea? I found some great tea in the kitchen," Julietta said smiling.

Etta looked great, stood there smiling over the fruits of her labour. Then again, a the little voice chirped up, she always looked great, didn't she.
Bobby still couldn't help but think there was something homely, something right about the two of them, keeping house in this amazing place.
The dining room was huge the southern wall comprised completely of panes of glass curving up at the top to start the roof, like a huge conservatory
was the only thing Bobby could liken it to. Even with the dull cloudy sky outside the brightness of morning filled the room with light which sparkled
off of the mass of well spaced tables, glinting on the shiny silverware place settings, it was like something out of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast he
thought.
"Coffee will be fine thanks," he replied before stating "ain't this place amazing?" He was a bit confused as arriving at the table it was full of
fruit and veg but decided not to say anything in case it made him look stupid.

Julietta poured some coffee into a white porcelain mug and pushed it towards Bobby then moving the sugar and milk there too.
"It surely is. There was so much stuff in the kitchen that I didn't know what to make, but I thought we could start with this and then make something
more if we wanted," Julietta said and sat down. She readied some tea for herself leaving it to soak for a moment before she started picking food onto
her plate.
She started with a big portion of different fruits and vegetables and a tower of bread almost soaked in the marmalade. She managed to eat with a
little more grace than the evening before, but still it looked like she had been starving for ages and was now trying to stuff herself before she
burst.

Bobby picked at the food a bit, he didn't really eat fruit that much and vegetables were something that you had on the side of the plate in fancy
restaurants like Beefeater and just ignored unless someone spotted the fact. He wasn't even completely sure that some of the things Etta was eating
were meant to be eaten cold.
He took some of the bread and spread butter and the orange jam on them while sipping at his black coffee. He didn't really drink hot drinks and had
gone for coffee because he thought it would make him look more sophisticated, the bitter burnt beans taste was horrible though and he spent a lot of
effort keeping the grimace off of his face when he sipped at it, not helped by the jam being really bitter too.
By the time Etta had cleared her mountainous plate of food Bobby had eaten a couple of slice of bread, just buttered after the first slice, and
nibbled around an apple. There was still half a cup of coffee sat in front of him too.
"You up for some more?" He asked, a bit stunned at how much food she could eat and still be pretty, he'd kind of forgotten about her being pregnant as
she was sat down. "I could go an' see if I can get a second course? Bit of bacon an' eggs perhaps?"

Julietta watched Bobby's eating with a slight concern. He wasn't eating much and what he was eating he didn't seem to enjoy. So he was one of those
"I'm not eating some bunny food"-types. But there wasn't much she could do, right? She couldn't force food down his throat if he didn't want to
eat.
Instead of worrying over Bobby she enjoyed her breakfast to the fullest, eating even more than she normally did. The tea was good too, a bit on the
strong side perhaps, but it was just what she needed to get her day going. When Bobby suggested they cook some bacon and eggs she smiled a bit.
"Sounds nice. But you sure you want to get eggs? Since they can be quite bad if they're not fresh... but everything else has been okay, so maybe they
would be too. Well, your call if you want eggs or not," Julietta said and stood up brushing some crumbs off her clothes.

"They'll 'ave a best before date written on 'em won't they? Or you can smell if they ain't right when you open 'em up? Don't know, could see if there
are any cornflakes and stuff instead, if you want more."

"Well, the best before date would be helpful if you know surely what date it is now. I don't know if I can say for sure, but if you can I'd like to
hear. I'd say leave the eggs be and get something else instead," Julietta shrugged and walked into the kitchen to see if she could find something else
to cook.
She looked around and checked the best before date of the eggs too, but the date had messed up in print or something and one couldn't read it and be
sure what date it had printed on. So she put the eggs aside for the second time and instead started looking for something else. She picked out some
bacon, cornflakes and biscuits. On everything she checked the dates were unreadable, but she tried to pick out stuff she though was safe.

Damn, Bobby had thought he'd been so clever about the best before dates, but of course that only worked if you knew when today was. Etta had realised
that straight away and he'd just looked like a thicko.
"Do you want me to..." but Bobby was talking to her back as she walked in to the kitchen and so let the offer drop before adding in a louder call "yer
right, I don't know what day it is either."
When she came back there was more coked bacon which he happily sandwiched between a couple of slices of bread, some cornflakes and some biscuits,
perfect.
"Ta for that," he thanked her as he ate, "what do you wanna do today then?"

Julietta took some cornflakes and biscuits that she dipped in the marmalade. She passed on the bacon since it was a little bit too heavy and greasy
for breakfast for her.
"I don't know... What do people do while in London?" she replied to Bobby's question. She didn't really know what she wanted to do. She wasn't sure
about the situation or what they were supposed to do about it. It could be good to check their surroundings and stock up on food and other
necessities. But there were so much other stuff Julietta thought they should or could do.

"Well, we could go and see the sites I guess. There were maps and things in reception, hang on" and so saying, Bobby gets up and jogs out of the room,
coming back a minute or so later with a handful of bright glossy pamphlets. Sitting down next to Etta he opens up a map before pulling his food
across.
"Piccadilly, Piccadilly, here," he announces prodding at the map, "we're right in the middle really, we could go to Buckingham Palace, he points West
and South a little bit, "see what the queens place is like, or there's museums and stuff. Hey, London Zoo, I wonder if there are animals there
still?"
The map is full of places of interest highlighted with little icons for each type of attraction.

Julietta was a bit surprised when Bobby suggested they go sightseeing. But then again it could be a good way to look around and have some fun at the
same time. So Julietta wasn't against the idea, really. And when would she get another chance to look around London as she see fit without any
restrictions over where she went.
"I don't think there's any animals. The city's completely silent, isn't it? If there were animals they'd be making lots of noise and even more so if
they were hungry," Julietta sighed. It could have been nice to go to the Zoo, "We could check the Buckingham Palace out and then think what we want to
do after that..."
She was nibbling on some biscuits the entire time, scooping more and more marmalade on them.

"OK, that sounds great," enthusies Bobby, trying to work out the shortest route on the map. "We'll leave everything here, right? And then if Buck
House is nicer than here, we can bring down whatever we need. I've put the solar lanterns out to charge up already."
"Shall we go when we're done eating here, you ready to go aside from that?"

"I don't know if I'd be comfortable living in a palace..." Julietta said but then smiled and continued before Bobby could say anything, "I'm ready to
leave when you are."
She had practically already finished eating but she nibbled on some fruits and leafed through some of the pamphlets while waiting for Bobby to
finish.
She made sure they packed some dry food and bottled water with them in case they got (or more like she got) hungry while breaking into the Buckingham
Palace. After some more preparations they were ready to go.
But just moments after they stepped outside of the hotel there was a loud explosion. Julietta automatically dropped to her knees and raised her arms
around her head giving out a loud shriek.

The sound of the explosion echoed through the empty streets and around them, unbelievably loud against the utter silence that they had lived in those
past few days. As Etta threw herself to the ground, Bobby just stood, looking around dumbfounded. There was no obvious sign of the explosion, although
a faint column of dust could be seen spreading out in the almost still air a number of streets away behind them.
As suddenly as it had erupted, the sound disappeared, the silence enveloping them once more with an ominous presence it hadn't exhibited up to then.
Bobby reached down to Etta, his body shielding her, protecting. His voice quavered slightly as he spoke,
"Are you alright? What's happening?"

"I don't know, I'm scared," Julietta mumbled and shook her head tears glistening at the corners of her tightly shut eyes. As soon as she could she
reached her hands around Bobby's neck and clung to him for protection. She didn't want to stand up and just stayed where she was, kneeling on the
ground arms holding Bobby down too.
After the first shock of the situation passed and the silence wrapped around them once again Julietta started to calm down, but still held onto
Bobby.
"What do you think that was? Should we go look?" she asked in a quiet voice, like she was scared of disturbing the silence around them.

"I don't know, it could be a gas main or something I suppose. There must be things here that need to be maintained and will go wrong if they aren't,
musn't there?"
Bobby thought about it for a moment, "there were no other sounds right? Just one explosion, not, like, guns or anything? So I guess it can't be people
fighting or stuff like that. If we are going to go and see, we'd best go before all the dust goes away, otherwise we might not see where it was."
Another thought crosses his mind, "and what if there's a fire? We ought to know about that, go and check?" Although almost as the words have left his
lips he realises that there's no smoke and so there can't be a fire.

"Okay, lets go look," Julietta nodded and carefully stood up. She dusted her clothes and then looked around holding onto Bobby's arm. There wasn't any
other sounds or smoke just the dust still lingering in the air, so she assumed it was at least somewhat safe to get closer.
"Alright, we're going. There isn't any more sounds coming so we can assume you're right and there's not a fight going on. Also there's no smoke,
right? So a fire is unlikely but if there were one you're right we'd be better off knowing about it..." she said and looked at Bobby. She had little
dirt on her face and her hair was a mess, but there was a determined look on her face now that the fear had faded mostly away. But her hold of Bobby's
arm was still tight and her hands shook a little.
She pushed some of her hair behind her ear and nodded before turning towards the direction where the dust still formed a big cloud over the buildings.
She glanced at Bobby over her shoulder before starting to walk towards the explosion site pulling Bobby with her.

Bobby was unsure, but went along with Etta anyway as she had made up her mind. Not really knowing why he used the sleeve of his t-shirt to reach up
and clean the smudge of dust from her face as they walked towards the site of the explosion together.
